At Pippa’s House, we believe that some of the most powerful lessons happen outside the classroom. That’s why we’re so proud to offer on-site Forest School sessions across our nurseries, giving children the chance to explore, learn, and grow in the great outdoors.

Forest School is more than just fresh air, it’s a unique educational approach that allows children to connect with nature, develop essential life skills, and build confidence through hands-on experiences. For us, it’s all about sparking curiosity and inspiring a lifelong love of learning.
What is Forest School?
Forest School is a child-led, play-based programme that takes place in natural outdoor settings. Children are encouraged to explore their environment, make discoveries, and take on new challenges in a safe, supportive space. Activities might include building dens, climbing logs, making mud pies, or identifying plants and animals.
Every session is designed to nurture independence, creativity, and problem-solving, while giving children the freedom to explore at their own pace.

The Benefits of Forest School
The positive impact of Forest School on children is incredible. Here’s how it helps little learners thrive:
Confidence: Completing outdoor challenges, like balancing on logs or building shelters, gives children a real sense of achievement.
Resilience: Nature provides endless opportunities for trial and error. Children learn that mistakes are part of the process and develop perseverance.
Curiosity: The outdoors is full of mysteries waiting to be uncovered. Every rustling leaf or hidden bug sparks new questions and discoveries.
Teamwork and social skills: Group activities encourage communication, cooperation, and empathy.
Connection to nature: Spending regular time outside fosters a respect and love for the environment.

Why We Love Forest School at Pippa’s House
Our Forest School sessions are carefully planned to balance freedom with guidance. Practitioners act as facilitators, encouraging children to lead their own learning while stepping in with support and inspiration when needed.
We’ve seen first-hand how children blossom in Forest School. A child who may be shy indoors might become a confident leader when building a den with friends. Another may discover a love of storytelling while gathered around an outdoor circle time. These moments are what make Forest School so magical.

A Natural Extension of the EYFS Curriculum
Forest School also ties beautifully into the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) framework, supporting key areas like Physical Development, Understanding the World, and Personal, Social, and Emotional Development. It’s a natural way to meet developmental milestones while keeping learning joyful and engaging.

Join Us in the Adventure
At Pippa’s House, we’re passionate about creating opportunities that inspire children to thrive, and Forest School is one of the most exciting ways we do that. Whether it’s climbing, exploring, or simply taking in the beauty of the outdoors, every session builds skills that will last a lifetime.
We can’t wait to welcome more families to experience the magic of Forest School with us.
